Day 2 Bernkastel-Kues to Kobern-Gondorf - 71 miles
Morning briefing with details about lunch and brew stops.
What was that?
Stunning early morning reflections.
The route continued along the Mosel passing through vineyard after vineyard.
The eyes of the all seeing watching over the winegrowers.
A surprising finding en route!
Closed today but some fine outdoor stone sculptures.
Each village and town adorned by turreted buildings, many dating to the 17th century.
We continued to criss-cross over the Mosel, the heat reaching 32.5 centigrade.
The geometry of the fields particularly attractive.
In the evenings we drank local Riesling, dry, crisp and very fruity!Tricky actions shots!
High castles, often overlooking steepled churches, typically with a village below...
...and also including some larger towns such as Zell,
Cochem and Moselkern
The architecture felt almost Russian (apologies if this sounds like a crass lack of knowledge of this region - I had never imagined!)
It was so hot when we arrived a the mid afternoon brew stop. Super hot! The Brits still opted for tea...
...and many of those professing to be "anti-carb" indulged.
71 miles and a hot ride, in our case it included a failed expedition to to two bike shops in Cochem. Apparently "Time" cleats (the bits which clip your shoes to the pedals) are not common here.
