Day 2 Bernkastel-Kues to Kobern-Gondorf - 71 miles

Morning briefing with details about lunch and brew stops. What was that? Stunning early morning reflections. The route continued along the Mosel passing through vineyard after vineyard. The eyes of the all seeing watching over the winegrowers. A surprising finding en route! Closed today but some fine outdoor stone sculptures. Each village and town adorned by turreted buildings, many dating to the 17th century. We continued to criss-cross over the Mosel, the heat reaching 32.5 centigrade. The geometry of the fields particularly attractive. In the evenings we drank local Riesling, dry, crisp and very fruity! Tricky actions shots! High castles, often overlooking steepled churches, typically with a village below... ...and also including some larger  towns such as Zell, Cochem and Moselkern  On the move. The architecture felt almost Russian (apologies if this sounds like a crass lack...

Day 1 Longuich to Bernkastel- Kues (and the evening before) - 31 miles

View of the cathedral off the main square in Frankfurt - the evening before our departure. A plaque remembers the mass, public burning of books by the National Socialists in 1933.  Hard to imagine. Our start point was the village of Longuich.  Morning briefing - a short but pretty ride along the Moselle river.  The area is famous for wine growing.  Pete looking more thoughtful than usual River traffic along the Moselle was mostly leisurely.  A path hugged the river and was fully of cyclists, walkers, runners, a few scooters and the occasional random car!  Some random cliff signs also.  The Romans were here, leaving their mark, in this case with a rather splendid gravestone of a wine grower with a replica of the ‘Roman wine ship’ at Neumagen-Dhron.   Serious about his wine.  Complete gravestone.  Villages on the way to Bernkastel-Kues were super pretty with half tim...
